For those who are interested, the Harry Potter DVD now has an official release date of 5/28. The 2-disc set will be released in widescreen and full-frame flavors with the following specs:

I went to the Echelon Mall on Saturday because I wanted to buy something at Hall of Heroes. I was walking towards the entrance and noticed a clown right near the door. I was freaked. I just kept walking, sort of pretending not to notice him when two cars full of clowns pull up near the entrance. There had to be 5 clowns visible in each car, plus who knows how many hiding in the trunk because you know how clowns are. I made a mad dash for the entrance while muttering "Holy crap, clowns....holy crap, clowns..." and once I made it inside I was greeted by the horrifying sight of.....a Destiny's Child poster. Oh, and the whole freaking mall was full of clowns.

A few days ago I ordered Vols #1-17 of Pokemon from DVD Planet. I got #11-17 in the mail today which is cool, but it sucks that I won't get #1-10 until Monday. Yes folks, I actually like Pokemon. I went to the Best Buy in Deptford hoping to get DVDs of volumes 5 and 6 of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Of course, they only had volumes 2 and 7. I'm not sure why they had volume 7 on display since it doesn't officially get released until 5/29, but whatever.... I bought it anyway. Tomorrow, er, today, I'll have a look at the BB near the Hamilton Mall. I know for sure I could get them at Suncoast in the mall, but there's no way I'm gonna pay full retail for them. The internet has spoiled me. hehe

One of these days I need to track down a copy of Vol. 2 of Maison Ikkoku. I think I was lucky to find Vol. 1 at a Borders two weeks ago. Why do stores stock multi-volume items in such an odd way?

If anyone is getting tired of using Outlook Express or whatever crap comes with Netscape to read their e-mail, you should give Incredimail a try. On their main page it says something like "Mail, just like in the movies." When I get mail now, a little ninja pops up and delivers it to me. hehe

Huzzah! My local cable company has finally decided to bring the miracle that is cable internet access to my area. I haven't used anything faster than my 56k modem (which refuses to connect higher than 31.2k) since....well, I guess I never have. I just assumed I was going to be stuck on this thing for the rest of time. For those who might find it amusing, here is an extremely short song I wrote in an e-mail to Beth telling her about the cable access.

I forgot to mention that I've got my cpu overclocked to 950mhz (9.5x100) now. Inching ever closer to that magical 1ghz. =) So, you wonder why I bother to overclock at all? It costs less to do it this way. I bought this cpu (AMD Duron 750) for $52. At its current speed, it nearly outperforms a PIII 1ghz. The best price I can find for a PIII 1ghz is $277. Nuff said.

I have to wonder what the hell is up with Intel. A P4 1.5ghz costs $687?! Um, no thanks. The P4 was rushed into production anyway. Soon there will be a new version of it and "old" P4 motherboards won't be able to support it.

I had this whole long post typed out yesterday and the freaking blogger ate it. Since I'm too lazy to type the whole thing again, here it is in a nutshell.

I bought a whole mess of new computer parts and stuck em all together to make myself an AMD 750mhz 'puter. It beats the hell out of my old P!!! 650. At the moment I have it overclocked to 850mhz with hopes to make it hit 1ghz in a week or two after I let it burn in.

I ordered myself a copy of Black & White from ea.com. I love this game. I think I played it for 4 hours straight yesterday. I also got the House Party expansion pack for The Sims. Should it bother me that I've effectively paid $100 for one game?

So I got myself a new video card. Tis an Elsa Gladiac GeForce2 MX. I called the local Best Buy and they were out of stock on my original choice, as was their web page. It doesn't really matter though, they're both based on the same chipset so performance is likely the same. I ordered this one from NewEgg (funny name, eh?). I can finally play UT in 1024x768 32-bit.

I hate my freaking dial-up connection. The fastest I ever get is 31.2kbps. I bought a copy of Half-Life today and after it was installed it informed me that there was an update available. So, I let it go and find out the update is 53megs. Only 302 minutes left on the download.

Wow, it's been quite a while since I've updated. I need to get myself over to Best Buy so I can get a new video card. I've got my eye on the Hercules Prophet II MX. It's not the newest or best, but I'm on a budget and my old 8mb card just isn't getting the job done. I also need to visit Crucial and get a 128mb stick of memory. This here 'puter only has 128mb and that gets eaten up pretty quickly when I fire up certain games ::cough:: The Sims ::cough:: I hate the Win98 VMM too, so I want to be able to disable it. RAM prices are at a low now, so it's a good time to pick some up. $60 for 128mb at Crucial =)

Ok, last night I was sitting here in my bedroom at the computer, and I started hearing this really funky noise coming from the basement. I went downstairs to have a look, and it turned out to be the heater. We called the gas people and they suggested we turn off the power to it and they would have someone there by 7am. This happened at around 11pm. I took the front cover off it to see if I could figure out what was making the noise. There was a little motor in the front that smelled like it was burning. Every couple minutes the heater would try to turn on and the motor would make squealing noises and then the whole heater would shut down. So, left with no other choice, we turned the whole thing off. Unfortunately, it was very very cold outside and we happen to have two tropical birds as pets. The problem there is that if they get too cold, they'll, well...die. I ended up having to sit in the kitchen until 4:30am with the oven and stove burners on to heat the house.

Oh, and earlier that day my satellite TV somehow got stuck on the Disney channel for an hour and a half.

I just got back from taking part 2 of the A+ test a few minutes ago. I got a 740, 465 being required to pass. I was only in the testing room for 3 minutes this time, so CompTIA got $250 of my money and I was only testing for a total of 8 minutes. And all I have to show for it is a piece of paper, heh.

I got called in to work today (or yesterday, I guess, since it's 12:32AM). My boss was thinking he had a virus on his computer, so I had to go check it out. The first thing I tried to do was update his virus scanner, because he hadn't updated it since he bought the computer over a year ago. So, I typed www.mcafee.com, but I got an error and it shut down Netscape. I thought that was odd, so I tried it in IE with the same result. Then I tried to access other sites with the browser, and I could. By this time, I was nearly 100% sure he had some kind of virus on there, but I needed to update the scanner first. After all, if the virus were polymorphic and the scanner didn't pick it up, it would "hide" from the scanner any other time I tried to use it. So, I went out to the only other computer there which has net access and managed to get to the McAfee site to get the update. I ran the scanner, now with update, and on the first file it scans, it tells me it has found the W95.MTX virus. It says the file can't be cleaned, so I make a note of the filename and delete it. Then, bam, it's in another one, and another.... all in all it infected something like 230 files on the computer. Most of these were, of course, important Windows files, so I wiped the whole thing and did a fresh install. Now, if you visit that link about the W95.MTX virus, you'll see that one of the most interesting things about it is that it blocks access to all virus scanner webpages. I have to say that whoever wrote that thing is pretty darn clever. Before I wiped it, I managed to trace the virus back to an e-mail with a text attachment. Be careful with those e-mail attachments folks!

On another note, I'm taking my A+ Dos/Windows test on Tuesday. I'm fully confident that I'll pass, but wish me luck anyway.

Ok, so I took my A+ Core test on Tuesday, instead of Monday. This was the first time I'd ever taken any kind of certification test, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I'd made my appointment for 3:00, but they said I should get there 15 minutes before that, so I arrived somewhere around 2:40. I went in and had to sign a non-disclosure agreement, because they don't want me telling everyone what's on the test. Then they stuck me in a tiny little room with 3 computers and told me to go ahead. I took the test, not really paying any attention to the time because they give you 30 minutes. I finished, and went out to write up my sign-out slip and realized that it had only taken me 5 minutes to finish it. The lady who was there said it must be some kind of record. Anywho, I passed with a 780, 450-something is the minimum required to pass, so I guess I did pretty good.

Now, I need to pass the A+ Dos/Windows exam. Luckily the study guide I bought for the A+ Core covers the Dos/Windows stuff, so I don't need to buy another book. Hopefully I'll be able to scrounge up the $120 I need in a week or two.

I've decided that I'm going to take part 1 of the A+ test on Monday. I'll have to figure in a decent cram session sometime between now and then. I'll probably end up doing it sometime Sunday afternoon.

I was bored last night, so I decided to take a SkillDrill over at Cramsession to see if I could pass the CompTIA A+ test. Well, I did, so now I've decided I should take the real thing because it'll look good on a resume. I went to Borders and bought a study guide. The study guide cost $35 and the test is somewhere around $120 (ouch!). Hopefully I'll take the test in a week or so, assuming the local testing center has an opening.

Beth said her computer was making weird noises, so I went over to see if I could fix it. It turned out to be the CPU fan making all the noise. I should be able to get one for free tomorrow, so that's lucky I guess.

I guess I should go study now so I don't blow $120 on a failed test. =)

Ok, so I was at Wal-Mart a few days ago because I wanted to buy a CD and a couple DVDs. I bought The Cell and Se7en. I'm walking out of the store, and of course, the alarm goes off. Now, there are about 10 other people leaving at the same time, but the old bitch watching the door yells "Hey You!" and points right at me. I walked back towards her and said in a really loud voice "Oh yeah, it has to be me right? There were like ten other people leaving too!" She just gave me this snotty look and checked my receipt to make sure I paid for the stuff. I walked back out, and this time the alarm didn't go off so I turned around and gave her a dirty look. On my way back to the car I was sort of talking to myself, saying what a stupid bitch she was, and this other Wal-Mart employee I didn't see said something like, "Yeah, she is a stupid bitch. She always checks the wrong people's bags when the alarm goes off." I really really hate when people assume I'm out to steal things from them.

On another note, please, do not waste you money on The Cell. The was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Se7en, on the other hand, was incredibly good and everyone should see it. =)

I finally got my copy of Fight Club yesterday, but I haven't watched it yet.

So, it's Jan. 1, 2K1 now, and I really don't care. Why do all the idiots who live around here feel the need to fire their guns on New Year's Eve? There must've been about 5 different people doing it. I kept sitting in here waiting for a bullet to come blasting through my window because some moron got all liquored up and didn't know where he was pointing his gun.

I got a copy of The Sims a few days ago. I think it must be the videogame version of crack because I can't stop playing it.

Why won't Amazon send me my copy of Fight Club? They changed the availability from ships 2-3 days to ships 1-2 weeks. Amazon is evil.

everything sucks. i managed to chip my tooth on, of all things, a pringle. normally that wouldn't be a big deal, and i'd go get it bonded, but i paid, like, $600 to have a root canal on it a few months ago. that is one damn expensive tooth. i wish i had dental insurance.

So, I got back from Sam Ash a little while ago. No one should ever, ever shop at that place. When I went to return that amp I felt like I was at a car dealer. They sent me back to the same guy I bought it from and he kept trying to talk me into buying other things because he didn't want to lose his commision. I did buy a Korg AX100G Multi-Effects pedal, but not because he talked me into it. =) After that I went to the liquor store that's right next to Sam Ash. I bought some booze and cigars.

I'm considering moving this blog over to my own server because of the outage that recently occurred.

I ordered a few movies at Amazon today. I got:

Gone in 60 Seconds
The Replacements
Fight Club

The whole thing cost me something like $3.50 because I had a $10 off coupon and some old gift certificates. It looks like I'm going to have to build myself a nice DVD rack or something, I have 96 movies and my current rack only holds 88 of them... While I'm on the subject of DVD's, I watched Gladiator the other day and that movie kicked ass! I wasn't really sure how I was going to like it, but now I'm really glad I bought it.

I also signed up for the BMG Music club because they were having one of those promotional deals. It was get 7 free, buy 1, and get 4 more free. I ordered 3 TMBG cd's, a Blur cd, and some other things I can't remember right now.

Ok, so I found a spot where I could stick my old amp, so it looks like I'll be taking the Line 6 amp back. The more I listened to it, the more harsh and "digital" it sounded. My old amp, which is a Peavey 5150, is a tube amp and has a much warmer sound. Now I have to buy some new tubes for the Peavey. I guessed that they'd cost somewhere around $100. Well, I was wrong. They'll actually cost about $175.

I'm kinda bored, so here's a picture of one of my guitars:

I went to Sam Ash Music today. I had to buy a new guitar amp because my old one is just too damn big and I don't have a place to put it anymore. I ended getting a Line 6 Spider 2x12. Well, I got it home, and while it's about half the size of my old one, it's still too big. Why is it that things always look smaller when you're at the store? I figure I'll get a 1x12 instead. The only problem with this, is the store didn't have any. So, I have to mail order the 1x12 and then take the 2x12 back to the store for a refund. What a freakin' pain...

My stupid notebook PC decided to stop working this morning. I had to tear the whole thing down to figure out what was wrong with it. Somehow the CPU managed to wiggle itself loose. As if that wasn't bad enough, the battery won't take a charge so it looks like I'm gonna have to buy a new one. I'm also on no sleep here, so this was all a huge pain.

Once again, nothing new to report. I'm thinking I should go to the record store tomorrow while I still have some cash. Am I the only one left who thinks vinyl is superior to CD's? Most everyone thinks that vinyl is outdated and has horrible sound quality, but it isn't true. The only thing that makes records sound bad is when they get dirty or mishandled. Let's see... vinyl also has better frequency response. CD's can only handle 20-20,000hz, whereas the stylus on my turntable can pick up from 10-50,000hz. The only way to get the sound from a CD to even come close to vinyl is to spend $20,000 on a Linn Sondek CD-12. I don't claim to have a perfect audio set up, but the difference is easy to hear. Anyone want to come by for a demonstration? =)

That sort of turned into a mini-rant which wasn't my intention, but, oh well...

Well, today kinda sucked. First I had to work on two different sets of web pages. The first being one for my boss. The second is one I'm still putting together. It'll be a page describing the housing requirements for different marine creatures. Then, as if that wasn't enough to keep me occupied all day, I nearly killed everything in my reef tank due to an overfeeding incident.

That you see before you is a left-handed hermit crab, which would have been a casualty of my mistake.

Also, for those who might find it interesting, I had a really strange dream last night. Apparently, I found some way to bring prehistoric creatures back to life (a la JP). And with this great knowledge I had, what do you think I did with it? I brought back an extinct species of lightning bug. But little did I know that these bugs were very destructive and they were soon destroying everything in sight. I tried to kill them all but a few escaped and I when I woke up I was still considering plans for hunting them down.

I went for a bit of a walk outside and noticed that the sky was rather clear tonight, so I decided I'd put my telescope to some use. I managed to find both Jupiter and Saturn which was, well... to me it was kind of amazing.

I don't know if anyone cares, but I have a lil' 20 gallon reef tank in my bedroom. For those who aren't familiar with such a thing, it contains critters which would be found on an ocean reef (duh). This critter here is a brain coral (Trachyphyllia geoffroyi):

I fed this thing for the first time today. I fed him a whole prawn (little shrimpy lookin thing). It was quite a sight. It has this mouth sort of thingy in the middle and it just sort of sucks the food down into itself.

I doubt people read this, but if anyone did, sorry if I bored ya.
